For the following reasons , hydro energy(electricity generation from water ) is considered as indirect source of solar energy:
Solar energy is manifested in many forms on the earth, one of which is hydro energy.
During water cycle, water flowing in rivers and other water bodies evaporates by the heat of the sun, condenses, moves back in upper atmospheric layers and gets replenished back. Thus, energy of flowing water is attributed to the sun.

Answer:-

Energy of water flowing through river is also solar energy yet in another form. When sunlight falls on water bodies (ocean, river, etc....), it evaporates water from these.

During evaporation a part of the solar energy gets converted into potential energy of water molecules which rise up in the air to form clouds. The potential energy of water molecules gets converted into kinetic energy during rain and snowfall. The water, due to melting of ice and rain at higher altitudes, flows through river and streams as it has a higher gravitational potential energy. In the process, the potential energy gets transformed into kinetic energy of flowing water.

I hope this helps u a lot... Thank uuuuu...
