The redox potential of the BChlorophyll protein complex (RC-1 in some PS bacteria, RC-2 in others) is not low enough to accept electrons from water. The other problem is that the oxygen evolving complex that does the 2H2o => 4H+ + 4e- + O2 is a very complex bit of machinery.
Not all PS bacteria use H2S. Some use organic compounds (especially acetate, lactate and benzoate) and quite a lot use Fe2+.
