Why is hydrogen not considered to be a member of group 1 the alkali metals?

because the alkali metals do not considersd as hydrogen

Hi, there !!

here is your answer :-
as you know that our periodic table is based on atomic number not on the basis of atomic masses.


there is variety of isotope of element found it is not possible to arrange in periodic table if they arranged on the basis of atomic mass.
So due to isotope of hydrogen it is not placed on fixed place.
hydrogen is behave like alkali metal as well as halogens scientist also confused where should it should be placed.

in the periodic table of Mendeleev he placed it into alkali metal instead of placing it into halogens.


so there is no fixed place of hydrogen, research is going on
