The pinhole camera does not consist of any lens. The light travels straight through the aperture and produces an inverted image because it is formed at the opposite side of the box.

The light travels from the top of the tree, straight through the pinhole, and straight to the BOTTOM of the image.
Light travels from the bottom of the tree, straight through the pinhole, and straight to the TOP of the image.
Thus the image is inverted. Left and right are reversed for the same reason
