1989 act is important for Adivasis because

  • The Adivasi activists pertain to it to uphold their right to seize land that was originally theirs. Activists have inquired that those who have forcibly intruded upon tribal lands should be penalized under this law. They have also referred to another significant fact. It is that the Act barely substantiates that land relating to tribal people cannot be traded to or bought by non-tribal people.
  • It records actions that strip Dalits and Adivasis of their meagre resources or which force them into serving slave labour. Therefore, the Act sets out to penalize anyone who: Wrongfully occupies or cultivates any property owned by, or allocated to, a member of a Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe or receives the land allocated to him switched.
