As India upholds the policy of world peace and mutual coexistence, India champions the cause of both qualitative and quantitative disarmament as very important for the present day world. Right from the time of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, India has maintained this stance for peaceful cooperation.  Of course total disarmament is not possible as every nation has to defend itself and has to be prepared for it. The expenditure on armaments could be moderated and balanced with expenditures for welfare of the people. This is one of the primary reasons for advocating disarmament.

Since the time of Nehru, has supported disarmament process.

Though it is impossible and impractical to attain total disarmament.

As every country needs arms for it's protection; an attempt can be made to reduce the number of arms.
