Because it is rich in biodiversity from north to south zone and from east to west. It has 14 major river basins through which numerous rivers drain. The annual rainfall varies from less than 37 cm in rajasthan to 1500 cm in cherapunji. The country experiences three different seasons- Summer, Monsoon and Winter. All these factors are the reson why its called as the region of mega diversity.
