A sovereign state is a country/nation which is not a puppet state or a dominion controlled by any other country or has its own laws and constitution. These states are called sovereign.
India has established its stable and reliable constitution after the British Raj. Thus, we can call India a sovereign country.
Hope it helps you!

India is a sovereign country. Because there is no discrimination of caste all are equal. ... Sovereign can be said “Supreme” on its own power. The word Sovereign implies that India is neither a dependent or dominion of any other nation but an independent on its own.
