An indifference curve always slopes downwards from left to right that is it has a negative slope. it is because of the simple reason that if the consumer wants to have more units of one good, he will have to reduce the number of units of another good, if his level of satisfaction is to remain unchanged . in other words , an indifference slopes downwards because if monotonic preferences. An indifference curve is convex to the origin as because of diminishing marginal rate of substitution.
