Why is inertia proportional to the square of velocity?

Answer:

Mass is the measure of inertia for all objects whether at rest or in motion towards change of their state of motion. But for moving object it is true that both mass speed offer resistance to the change of state. So speed contributes to the idea of inertia if not in terms of amount of force or tongue but may be in term of time in which the changes has has to take place. I think there is no direct relationship between speed/velocity and inertia.
