Why is inland transport are rarely used in export cargo?
Answers
The following are the reasons for inland water transport rarely used for movement of export and import cargo in India:
1. In the geographical factors, we can include increased siltation (due to which navigability reduces), reduction in water flow (due to the diversion of water for irrigation) and waterfalls and rapid floods, due to all these obstacles inland water transports cannot perform their task properly.
2. In the technical hurdles, we may include inadequate depth, quality of water flow, inadequate air draft and lack of terminals etc.
3. In the regulatory challenges, we may include the lack of modal combination of and comprehensive mapping of waterways and manufacturing bunches and also the absence of integration of hinterland waterfront transportation with worldwide marine traffic
