As we know that it is drawn in a zigzag manner because it deviates at places on map so that it does not cut through any island or cause confusion of dates in country. Time is kept from an imaginary line passing through Greenwich , England called prime meridian

International date line is helpful to us as we can find out the time by seeing which zone we are it also divides the Earth into two equal parts but it is not straight so as to keep the islands of the countries in one hemisphere only.
