Why is iodination of alkane carried out in presence of oxidizing agent such as hio3 or hno3

may be because as compare to other halides Iodine is more selective and Less reactive. Therefore it requires special reagent for iodination. On the contrary fluorine has as much reactivity as it can even react in dark also
