Hey friend!!!

Here's the answer to your question

Ionic bond is an electrostatic force of attraction formed by complete transfer of electron from one atom to other and there is no sharing.

So there is no attraction of the shared pair of electron because there is no shared pair of electron.

Hence it is non directional.

HOPE THAT HELPS..... ☺️

hey friend ,

we know that ionic bond are electrostatic force of attraction between the atoms ( i.e metals and non- metals )

=)when metals losses it's electron it gets positive charge (cation).

ex:-
=> Mg ----------> Mg+2 + 2e

=) when non- metals gains electron it's gets negative charge (anion)

=> Cl + 2e --------> 2Cl-

so when these cations and anions come closer then there is electrostatic force acting between then which leads to formation of bond .

=) Mg+2. + 2Cl- ==) MgCl2

so , we can see that there is no role of direction in case of ionic bond formation ..

so we can say that ionic bond is "non directional"
