because washing a cleans them if they are dirty..... But remember don't wash them after peeling... Because it will remove the vitamins and minerals from them

It is advisable to wash fruits & vegetables before using then because now a days farmers r reducing the use of manure and increasing the use of fertilisers . Since they use to sprinkle the fertilisers on the fruits n vegetables it becomes necessary to wash them before using them as these fertilisers r harmful whereas manure is not.
