When food like grapes or small snacks are tossed into the mouth, it might get stuck in between the oesophagus and remain there preventing further flow of food or water. This will lead to gagging and choking and sometimes may become fatal. If the tossed food enters the windpipe or the trachea, then immediately severe coughing, gagging, or choking will occur and there are chances of minute food particles entering the lungs. These food particles might cause aspirational pneumonia later on especially in older people.
