When coal is burned, carbon dioxide is produced. If the doors and windows are closed, the carbon dioxide will accumulate and the amount of oxygen will decrease. This will extinguish the fire. In order to keep the coal burning, we need to expel the CO2 and allow O2 into the room by opening the doors.

Apart from that, excessive CO2 in a closed room could result in headache, dizziness and even death of the individuals in the room. So the doors must be kept open for proper ventilation.
