Answer:

pIt is advised to switch off TV/radio during thunderstorm because appliances like TV/ radio work with an electromagnetic waves and they can catch electricity as they work as a good conductor and these electricity flows through the wires of these appliances which can shock you, if you touch and they can even catch fire.

♡ ↪☛ If lightning strikes your house, the TV aerial or the house mains supply, the resulting voltage and current surge could destroy the TV set.

However, if that's going to happen, turning it off will do very little to protect it - lightning voltages can easily jump the gap in the mains switch, and putting it on standby will have no protective effect whatsoever.

If the risk of a lightning strike is unusually high, and the television unusually valuable, then to protect it you need to disconnect it both from the aerial lead and the mains socket.

Personally I wouldn't bother, and if the TV programme is more interesting than the lightning display (possible, but not likely), I would carry on watching.
