Iodised salt contains sufficient iodine. Iodine is necessary for making thyroxine hormone in our body by thyroid gland, therefore, deficiency of iodine in our balanced diet can cause a deficiency of thyroxine hormone and can cause a disease called Goitre.

The main symptoms of Goitre is that the neck of person appears to be swollen due of enlargement of thyroid gland. Thus, people are advised to take iodised salt for cooking food so as to prevent themselves from goitre disease.
