The dark phase of photosynthesis can be called as light independent phase since it does not require sunlight. In fact, the dark reaction uses the ATP and NADPH generated in the light reaction to synthesize carbohydrate from carbon dioxide and water.

Answer:

Hence it would be better to call it Light independent phase rather than Dark phase. The term dark reaction does not mean that they occur when it is dark at night. It only means that the reactions are not depend on light. we can call the darrk phase of photosynthesis as light independent phase.
