why is it better to call the dark phase of photosynthesis as a light independent phase

The dark phase of photosynthesis has nothing to do with dark. This process can take place even in the presence of light,but does not necessarily require light. Hence it would be better to call it Light independent phase rather than Dark phase.

• Dark phase of photosynthesis is nothing but Calvin cycle where fixation of C-atoms take place.
• This reaction doesnt require sunlight and can take place at night as well as day.
• As this reaction can take place during day, better to call it ligjt independent reaction than dark reaction.
