no its not. when viruses are outside of its host's cell ( any type of living cell) its dead. when its on it its alive. so its on the borderline

When a virus is inside a host cell, it behaves as a normal living organism. But when it is outside the host body, it behaves as if it is dead. It can stay dead for millions of years and once it gets its host, it becomes alive. So you can't say if it is truly alive.
