Why is it convenient to express the distance of stars in terms of light year or parsec rather than in km?

because they are bigger unit of distance as compare to kilometres in galaxy everything is as far beyond our imagination ... i think parsec are often used instead of light years

Because the distance in outer space is very large.we know that 1km=1000m but 1light year=300000000m,so due to this it is easy for us to express the distance in light years
