why is it difficult for a fireman to hold a hose, which ejects large amount of water at a high velocity .

Action and reaction are equal. When water flows from the hose it forces pressure back on to fireman. In the hose pressure is moving in a synchronized manner however when it reached the end of hose is the pressure disperse giving fireman trouble to hold on to it

Water comes out at large speeds from the hose, due to newtons third law of motion the water applies a force on the hose which makes the hose to move backwards. so the fireman has to put extra effort to hold the hose.
