Why is it difficult to walk on sand

It is hard to stand on sand as sand consists of very small and loosely packed particles due to this when we put our leg into sand, sand loosens up and so our leg sinks. hence, it is hard to walk on sand.

This is because when one is walking on Sand, the sand yields under the person's feet , thus increasing the area on which friction is acting.

This increases the presssure and thus greater force is required to overcome it. Thus it is difficult to walk on Sand
