It is difficult to walk on sand than on a wooden path because sand has more intermolecular space. It can't hold our feet steadily while walking because of the less friction. But a wooden piece can hold our feet as it has more friction as well as less intermolecular space than sand. So it gets easier to walk on a wooden path than on sand.
