Why is it easy to roll a cylindrical eraser on a paper sheet than to slide it?

Theoretically, the contact surface in perfectly rigid bodies is zero. But, in practice due to deformation, there appears a small contact surface which is quite small compared to sliding surfaces that rub on each other. That's why it is easier to roll than to slide.
