It is not harmful to walk on a footpath but it is harmful to walk on straight roads as roads have vehicular traffic in them.  

Explanation:

• Footpaths are built on the sides of the roads for people to walk and for people to avoid the straight roads.
• Roads are where the transport runs and hence if people walk on those roads they would create disturbances for the cars and buses and also put their own lives in jeopardy as accidents can occur.
