Ultimately , the temperature is an area depends on the amount of the Sun's energy reaching the surface in that area . The amount of solar energy that in equal area at the poles , which is why the equator temperature is warmer than the polar temperatures .

Insolation is maximum at the equator and decreases as we go towards the pole
That is the reason why equatorial region is hot
