semi permeable means it allows only certain substances in and out of the cell. the cell is the functional unit of every organism and if the cell membrane is not permeable foreign substances may enter the cell which may cause harm to the organism.
if the cell membrane was not permeable unwanted substances will enter the body and substances required for this cell may move out.
