Hey lovely user @Teresaannemarie

Your correct option is (B)

B.He doesn't want Beowulf to receive any honor.

He tells Beowulf that he isn't victorious, because he just slipped on the blood and wasn't actively pursued by him.

John Garner's creation Grendel illustrates the different side of the Anglo-Saxon text- Beowulf. The narration in the epic is classified as a third-person narrative. It never portrays the views of Grendel. It is never given any speech. Moreover, John's novel just provides a voice to Grendel to show the thoughts of Grendel itself. Hence the tale that Grendel expresses is far very dissimilar from the original work illuminating the epic hero.

In Garner's write-up, Grendel never believes that the fight between both characters is a fair struggle. Instead, Grendel belief is that Beowulf winning over it is completely accidental. Moreover, if Grendel wouldn't have slipped, Beowulf would have lost. So, it does not like the idea of honoring Beowulf and his depiction as some hero.

Therefore, the answer to the query is:

D. "He doesn’t want Beowulf to receive any honor."
