- The valves present the backward flow of blood. These valves are actual flaps that are located on the each end of the two ventricles.
- They act as one-way inlets of the blood on one side of a ventricles and one-way outlets of blood on the other side of ventricles.
- Valves are also located at the "exits" "doorways" of the heart for the blood flows in one direction.
- Valves in the heart open and close passively, not through muscle contraction. The open when a forward pressure pushes against them and close when the backward pressure pushes against them.
- The valves are attached to the muscles, called papillary muscles , which are attached to the wall of the ventricle and contract when the heart muscles contracts.
- Although, the papillary muscles contract, they do not open and close valves. Instead, contraction of papillary muscles pulls on the leaflets of the valves during the ventricles contraction, limiting the movement of the valves.
- In your heart makes classic "lub"( AV valve closure) "dub" ( aortic/ pulmonary valve closure) sound you hear when you use a Stethoscope to listen your heartbeat.
