The earth’s forest cover is fast disappearing and it is critical that steps to increase it are taken on a war footing.
Forest trees provide valuable food for human beings and animals alike. Other products useful for humans are also obtained from forests, such as timber, fire wood, fibre, honey, fruits etc. Forests stop soil erosion.
It provides shelter to wild animals.
Large concentration of plants, shrubs and trees found in forests, promote rainfall. This process is called transpiration in which leaves give out water vapour, which then mixes with normal moisture and help in forming rain clouds and causing rainfall.
