Why is it important to use a soft iron core in a galvanometer?

The soft iron makes the magnetic field stronger and radial, such that into whatever position the coil rotates, the magnetic field is always parallel to its plane.

In a Galvanometer,it is important to use soft iron core because it increase the strength of magnetic field .
and in this ,soft iron core is cylindrical which makes field radial.
