Why is it more convenient to predict spontaneity of reaction in terms of delta g rather than delta s?
Answers
we know that Delta s is change in entropy of reaction. ie it should be a +ve value to make the reaction occur spontaneously .
∆s >0 - spontaneous rk
∆s=0 - in equilibrium state
∆s<0 - non spontaneous rk
and ∆G is the change in free energy of any rk n it sud always be -ve value for any spontaneous rk
∆G<0 - spontaneous rk
∆G=0 -in eqb state
∆G>0 -non spontaneous rk
moreover entropy is the result of molecular randomness of any system which is not a finite parameter to predict spontaneity of a rk as it may be affected by external factors of temp n pressure whereas change in free energy is more suitable to determine the spontaniety as by this way we take in consideration the study of system only n not surrounding.
hope it helps
