why is it named as phenyl chloro methane but not in terms of benzene(I have this confusion as the ring dtrucure represents benzene..)

Benzene is a compound i.e. it has all paired electrons.Phenyl is a radical i.e. it has an unpaired electron.
Benzene has molecular molecular formula as C6H6. Phenyl has molecular formula as C6H5.
