Dialects, of Indian languages or any other, mark the uniqueness of sub-cultures within a culture.
My parents speak two distinct dialects of my mother tongue. I grew up in a region where they speak a third dialect of the same language. Till date, neither of my parents can speak fluently in the dialects of the other, whereas both my brother and I can speak all the three dialects like native speakers do.
This kind of upbringing characterised me for a lifetime. It created a certain complexity within my identity like nothing else could. Now, whenever I learn a new language, I naturally tune into the way it is being spoken, with an open ear to accentual specifications, which many people who aren’t raised with distinctly different dialects cannot.
Dialect variations remind me how rich cultures are, diverse and unique, and that is the kind of world I want to live in. As the answer below by Sachin Giri suggests, diversity makes life more colourful and interesting.
And that is why I would say it is necessary to keep the dialects alive.
(1) The Indian languages also have dialects.
(2) The dialects enrich a language.
(3) These are ways of expression of common people.
(4) They are an important part of our heritage.
(5) But, their number is now on the decline.
Therefore, it is necessary to keep alive the dialects of the Indian languages.
