why is it necessary to kill the pupae by boiling cocoons in water

its becz when we boil cocoons, the pupae inside of it gets killed and it gets easy to unwind the silk.
it is necessary to kill the pupae cz if it gets matured inside then will break the cocoon and thus small lengths of silk will be observed.
