Why is it necessary to separate oxygenated and deoxygenated blood in mammals and birds in hind

Humans or mammals need to keep their blood warm . So they need higher energy requirements. So they have a system called double circulation where blood flows through Heart two times I.e once when it is oxygenated and when once it is deoxygenated. Thus , it is necessary to be separated .
