Separating oxygenated blood from deoxygenated one is an important and essential phenomena in mammals and birds.
Because,Mammals and birds are warm blooded animals. They constantly use energy to maintain their body temperature. They have higher energy needs so they require more amount of oxygen to produce energy. So They have a system called double circulation wher blood flows through heart two times, once when it is oxygenated and one when deoxygenated.. so they requires to be separated.
Even the many cycles will not be possible if this will not separate.such as...Krebs cycle,Glycolysis..
Hope the answer would help you...
