Why is it necessary to write scale and kink(sometimes) in the graphical representation of data?

A scale in a graph is the representation of the data that has been presented in the graph. Sometimes there are big numbers which need to be represented but cannot fit in a small graph, hence a proper scale is required.

A kink maintains the continuity of a graph and is used to denote missing dimensions. It plays the role of compressing the axis and pulls the starting number near the axis of the graph, thus making it look continuous.
