Why is it not possible for hydrogen to give a fixed position in mendeleev periodic table?

because hydrogen resembled alkali metals ....

As H has tendency to gain 1 electron and attain octet like halogens.
As H forms oxides and hydrides of similar general formula of alkali metals.
