It is not possible to chop vegetables with a butter knife because -

• Butter is softer than most of the normal vegetables.

• That's why for cutting butter we need the butter knife which has less sharpness.

• But, vegetables are harder than the butter. That's why we need extremely sharp edged knife to cut the vegetables. This sharp edges have less surface area so the force exerted in one point stays very high.

• On the other hand, the edge of the blunt butter knife has greater surface area and the exerted force in one point is very less which cannot cut a vegetable.
