subsidiary alliance was introduced by Lord Wellesley who was the then the governor general from 1798-1805.after the rulers of different kingdoms signed the alliance, there were various factors including strong British state both financially and militarily, weak rulers, no farsightedness, or feeling on nationalism, that ultimately led to situation where Indians rulers were left with no choice.
