The World War I was the first ever war in the world in which most of the countries participated in it, though it was mainly located in the European continent but the effects of the war were felt to the farthest point of the globe. The main features marking it as a global war are as follows-
1- The whole of Europe was divided in two parts namely central powers and the allied powers, though the Europe was divided into two parts but as the war escalated both the alliances grew in their size as central powers was supported by the big empires like the Ottoman empire and many big countries. Similarly allied powers were also supported by the giants like US and Portugal.
2- This was the first time when chemical weapons were used and was the first big war indulging the use of fighter jets.
3- More than 10 million people died in this war which was the highest number of casualty at that time.
4- Three monarchies were overthrown namely Hohenzollern of Germany, Hapsburg of Austria and Ottomans of Turkey because global map was changed.
5- Democracy came as the new thriving political establishment in the world as more countries were choosing democratic institutions instead of monarchy.
