Why is it that dogs always produce several puppies whereas human being produce only one child at a time ?

Dogs always produce several puppies but humans not because dogs release several eggs at a time and several sperms fuse with them to produce number of puppies whereas human body is designed to release one egg only at a time so there is no chance of multiple fusion and multiple offsprings (excluding exceptions).
