Explanation:the different colours of light have different wavelengths.
if we plot a graph we will see that red(infra red) has the least frequency while violet(ultra violet) has the highest. Our stupid brain cannot distinguish these waves at these high speeds, so our brain imagines it as a white ray of light.But as light travels the through a prism the wavelengths change and come out separately.So we see a spectrum of different colours.The same phenomenon happens in the formation of rainbow.
