A person who is abnormally anxious about their health is an hypochondriac.
Jerome was a hypochondriac because he believed that he was suffering from innumerable diseases and ailments caused by ‘overwork’. He thought that he had all the diseases in the world apart from housemaid's knee. He believed that his liver was out of order just because he read a patent liver-pill circular where all symptoms by which a man could tell when his liver was out of order were given. Whenever he read such things, in most cases, the diagnosis seemed to him corresponding exactly with his sensations.
