Ferric chloride is a stronger coagulant when compared to potassium chloride. This is because the valency of iron in ferric chloride is 3+, whereas that of potassium in KCl is 1+. The higher the valency, the better is the coagulation efficiency of the compound. Also, ferric chloride is more compatible with skin than KCl. Thus, FeCl3 does not cause any irritation when applied over wound.
