nitric acid is in yellow colour due to the dissolution of reddish brown colored nitrogen dioxide gas in acid. this gas us produced due to the thermal dissociation of a portion of nitric acid

II) nitric acid is very strong oxidising agent. it oxdizes the dihydrogen gas produce during the reaction with metal to water
